 How to backup and restore Router configuration?
Solution

This guide will assist you backup the configuration of your Vigor router and then restore it to a replacement other router. The instructions assume you already have a working router. Please follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1: Connecting your computer to the router

Step 2: Connect to the Router Web Interface

Start your web browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer) and type in the router IP address of 192.168.1.1 into the Address Bar, as shown below.
Note: If you have changed the router IP address, then use the new IP address.

When prompted enter the username and password for the router. (Default setting is no username or password)

Step 3: Backup the Router Configuration

Go to “System Maintenance>>Configuration Backup” menu page and select Backup.

A dialogue box will appear to open or save the file. Select “Save

Select the location on your computer hard drive to save the configuration file and click “Save”.

You should now get the following box appear:

Step 4: Connect the New Router

Disconnect your computer from the old router and connect to the new router.
Follow steps 1 and 2 as described previously to establish a connection between your computer and the new router.

The default IP address for the new router will be 192.168.1.1 and there is no password required.

Step 5: Restore the Router Configuration to the New Router

Go to “System Maintenance>>Configuration Backup” menu page and select Browse.

Browse to the location on your computer where you stored the backup configuration file and select the file. And click on Open as shown below.

You should now get the following screen appear.

Click Restore to restore the router configuration to the new router

The router will now restart with the new configuration loaded.

Step 6: Test the Router Configuration has loaded and Internet Access works

Once the router has restarted, check that you have connected the ADSL line to the ADSL port of the router and carry out the following checks:

A. Check "Internet Access Setup" on the Router

B. Check the Router Online Status

 

  • Check that ADSL Status  State is “SHOWTIME” – Indicates the ADSL line is has successfully connected
  • Check WAN Status – It appears after successfully authenticating your account with the ISP. It will appear as shown above.
