If you are have having trouble connecting to the internet, the first reference should be the Quick Start Guide (QSG) that came with the router. The QSG explains how to connect the router to the Internet within minutes. However, if there are still problems, then please refer to the documentation below for reference.
I. Physical Connections
Ensure the physical cable connections are correct.
- Power adapter is firmly plugged into router.
- ADSL line connected to ADSL port on router (if the router has a modem inside)
- Seperate Cable or ADSL modem pluged into WAN port on router (if you have a seperate modem)
- Ethernet cable plugged from PC network card to one of four LAN ports on the router.
You should notice:-
- ACT LED (light) flashing
- DSL LED blinking
- WLAN LED on, if the router has wireless functionality.
- Px LED on, where x is the port number on the router.
- On the PC, there should be a message indicating that a new network connection has been established. There should be either a new icon on the system tray (bottom right hand corner) in Windows; or a new connection should be activated in the Windows Control Panel -> Network Connections area.
II. Checking the PC Network Connection
Please follow the instructions specified here for how to connect your PCs to your router. To easier detect whether or not your PC has a connection to the router, ENABLE the "Show icon in notification area" and "Notify me when connection is limited or no connectivity" tick boxes as shown below.

In certain cases, you may need to set a Static IP address for the network card in your PC. To do so, follow the example settings specified below:

Please ensure that you have a network connection to your router first before proceeding. If you can't establish a connection, then try setting a static ip address on the network card as specified above. Otherwise, you may need to upgrade the drivers for the network card.
III. Accessing the router Web Interface
To access the router web interface, open up Microsoft Internet Explorer browser and type in the router ip address of 192.168.1.1 into the Address Bar, as specified below. A common mistake is to type the number 192.168.1.1 into the Google or Yahoo search bar - do not do this. Please type the number into the browser's Address Bar.

You will be asked for a router username and password. Both are blank (i.e nothing) by default. Click OK to proceed. If you have previously set a password for the router, then the username becomes "admin", and the password is whatever new value you have set it as. Note: the draytek router username and password are NOT the same as your ISP account username and password.
IV. Configuring the "Internet Access Setup" on the router
You should now be in the Main Menu of the router web interface. You should see many options. The layout will defer depending on which Draytek router you own. In this documentation, we will go through the standard setups that most users need to configure.
Please follow the instructions below for your connection type. Note that you will need to know:
- ISP account username and password
- Internet Access Mode - PPPoE/PPPoA, Static or Dynamic IP, MPoA
- DSL Modem settings (if applicable)
- Telstra Bigpond Login (BPA) for Cable Internet (if applicable)
The above information should be obtained from your ISP.
FOR ADSL CONNECTIONS WITH VIGOR ROUTER AS THE MODEM
Click on Internet Access Setup -> PPPoE/PPPoA
Then enter in the following settings:
- PPPoE client enable
- Enter in DSL modem settings as specified by your ISP. Default settings will work most of the time.
- Enter in your ISP account details CORRECTLY into the ISP Access Setup box. Ensure that 'space' characters are not included at the beginning or end of the username/password. Also, username and passwords are CASE SENSITIVE.
- Enable the Always On checkbox.
- Click OK to save settings.
FOR ADSL CONNECTIONS WITH SEPERATE MODEM
Click on Internet Access Setup -> PPPoE/PPPoA
Then enter in the following settings:
- PPPoE client enable
- Enter in your ISP account details CORRECTLY into the ISP Access Setup box. Ensure that 'space' characters are not included at the beginning or end of the username/password. Also, username and passwords are CASE SENSITIVE.
- Enable the Always On checkbox.
- Click OK to save settings.

FOR TELSTRA BIGPOND CABLE USERS - BPA LOGIN
*** TELSTRA BPA LOGIN is no longer required ***
FOR BIGPOND / OPTUS CABLE USERS
Click on Internet Access Setup -> Static or Dynamic IP
Then enter in the following settings:
- Broadband Access enable
- Enable Obtain an IP address Automatically
- Click OK to save settings.

If you are a Cable Modem user and cannot establish a connection, you may need to "power cycle" the modem; alternatively, you may need to modify the router's WAN MAC address with LAN card's MAC address.
V. Checking the Router Online Status
To determine whether or not the router is online, go back to the main menu of the router interface, then click on the Online Status link. Note that it might take up to 6 minutes for a connection to be established.

You should notice the following things:
- Under WAN status, the mode should be either PPPoE, PPPoA, DHCP Client etc
- Under WAN status, the uptime value should refresh every 5.5 seconds as it increases.
- Under ADSL status, the state should be "Showtime".
If all the above have occured, you should now be connected to the internet. You can now visit web pages, send email etc.
However, if the above hasn't occured, then there is no connection to the Internet. The following are common errors:
- Under the WAN status, if there is an "PPPoE: username or password error" then double check to make sure that you have entered in the correct username and password in the Internet Access Setup screen, as specified under section IV of this FAQ.
- Under the WAN status, if there is three red dashes "---", or if you are receiving an "PPPoE: No response from serverside" message, then you may need to upgrade the firmware on the router.
VI. Troubleshooting Guidelines
If you encounter problems throughout the process, then try the following tips:-
- Upgrade the Firmware. Note that you will need to gain internet access from another location, download the necessary firmware files from the Draytek Downloads Section, store them on a storage device (e.g. usb drive, CD-ROM) and then copy the contents to your PC.
- Reset the router and start again.
- Read the FAQ
If all else fails, please submit a Helpdesk Tickek to Draytek Support.
